More than 300 years ago, colonists established the first permanent European settlement in the Carolinas on the grounds of Charles Towne Landing. Today, this protected historic site and nature preserve interpret the story of the 17th century settlement. Charles Towne Landing has much to see and do including the Animal Forest, Living History and Archaeological sites.

The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry (CML) offers unlimited learning adventures for children, ages 3 months to 12 years, and their families. Kids can race boats down rapids, climb aboard a Lowcountry pirate ship, make it rain indoors, or grow vegetables in the all-organic kids garden.

Gibbes Museum of Art |

Art Discovery Walking Tours are held by request/appointment ($20 includes tour and museum admission). Participants view artistic treasures at the Gibbes and then walk in the footsteps of the artists who created them. The Gibbes Museum of Art displays mostly American pieces dating back to the 16th century.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is the oldest public tourist site in the Lowcountry, and the oldest public gardens in America, opening its doors to visitors in 1870 to view the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants in its famous gardens.

Follow the path through South Carolina from the Mountains to the Sea as you travel through the Aquarium Galleries. Displays detail South Carolina's major regions: Mountain Forest, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, and Atlantic Coast. A variety of birds, reptiles and fish is included as well.
