Austin Zoo
  Austin Zoo is a sanctuary for rescued and abandoned animals - domestic and exotic. The zoo is located just off Highway 290, between Austin and Dripping Springs. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization since '94, they now rely "solely on private donations, grants and sponsorships for continued growth."
 
Historic Train Excursions
  A half-day trip aboard the Hill Country Flyer steam train, along the Austin and Texas Central Railroad lines, takes you into and around the Texas hill country. There are also 90-minute rides aboard the River City Flyer and the Bertram Flyer, and special dinner runs on the Twilight Flyer.
 
Inner Space Cavern Tours
  Discovered in 1963 by crews preparing the way for highway-building, this previously unknown cavern in Austin, Texas is now a destination for people mesmerized by earth's geological past. Descend into it via cable cars, and then take a paved hike through various rooms.
 
McKinney Falls State Park
  This 640-acre park boasts a unique swimming pool located under the falls. Hiking, biking, fishing, and picnicking are available, along with camping facilities. Located 13 miles southeast of downtown Austin off US 183. For camping reservations, call 512-389-8900.
 
Wildflower Center
  This Austin, Texas Wildflower Center is attuned to the belief that human health is connected intrinsically to the health of the land and the environment, this 279-acre center was founded by the former First Lady and by actress Helen Hayes. It promotes the use and restoration of native plants in the landscape and teaches visitors the beauty of conservation.
